By Eric SharpeIt’s not quite official, but soon, coal may likely go the way of jazz. It’s not dead, nor will it die, but it may become a minor player in the power generation landscape. The common argument is that environmentalists and the Obama administration are responsible for the decline of coal. But anyone in the industry knows, or should know by now, that it was Natural Gas that dethroned king coal. Despite monumental regulatory pressures on the coal industry which certainly did not help coal’s cause, it has been NG fracking that has critically undermined coal’s stranglehold on the power generation industry.
